BABE #15: MADISON GEERY, <BR>Client Services Manager @ Someecards
Chelsea DuDeVoire
This gal was referred to me (andI wasreferredtoher) by a group of friends we coincidentallyshare here in Jacksonville, FL. Madison has a super impressive work and internship background that speaks volumes to her work ethic and dedication as both a student and professional, and she's currently hustling at a company that most of us millennials know and love. It's pretty cool to meet the brains behind the brands that we're so used to seeing tossed around the internet, and being able to learn more about how they operate. Thanks for taking the time to chat with us, Madison!
The Basics:
Hometown: Orlando, Florida Current city: New York, New York Alma mater: University of North Florida! SWOOP. Degree: B.S. in Communication, concentration in Advertising Hustle: Client Services Manager, Brand Development @ Someecards
The Interests:
Babe you admire and why: My mom. I owe my work ethic to her.
Go-to coffee order: I’m a big fan of year-round iced coffee, but I can’t resist a PSL or two in the fall.
Favorite fictional character and why? Liz Lemon from 30 Rock. She hustles and lives her dream, but it’s not romanticized. Like the rest of us, she gets hangry (i.e. hungry and angry) and things don’t always go her way.
Favorite social media account to follow? @doughmestichousewife. It’s a guilty pleasure of mine to watch cookie decorating videos...
Favorite podcast: Surprisingly Awesomeor Stuff Mom Never Told You. They help keep me busy when I'm on the subway, while also teaching me things! It makes me feel like I'm never wasting any time.
One food you refuse to eat? Definitely pickles.
The Hustle:
Tell us about your current hustle: I am currently the Client Services Manager at Someecards.com. I’m responsible for acquiring new clients and maintaining all of our current campaigns.
What does your typical workday look like? Depending on the day, I’m switching between client meetings, presentations, leading kick off calls, checking on live campaigns, getting web pages set up, choosing images for branded content, pulling data, creating wrap-up reports, crafting case studies, etc. I’m never doing the same thing and I love it.
What are your previously held jobs and internships? I've worked as the Promotions Intern at Cox Media Group, Marketing Intern at Marketing Matters, Ad Sales Intern at Discovery Communications, Marketing Intern at The Dalton Agency, Marketing Coordinator at The Pincomb Group, National & Digital Sales Assistant at Discovery Communications, and Ad Sales Coordinator at Someecards. I also worked part-time at Bath & Body Works and Mochi Frozen Yogurt duringcollege to help make ends meet. #DamnGirl.
What is the most important lesson your job has taught you so far? Time management is everything. Also, don't take everything personally. Since I’m at such a small company, it’s easy to get caught up in minor daily tasks and issues. Always remember to take a step back and look at the big picture.
What motivates you every day? Living in New York City is a huge motivator in itself. I’m surrounded by such incredible people all the time. Everyone is working towards and/or living their dreams - the energy is contagious.
How do you manage stress and stay balanced? To-do lists are my best friend. Whenever I start to feel overwhelmed, I stop what I’m doing and make a list. It mentally helps me so much to cross things off and visualize the fact that I’m actually getting things done.
Favorite part about your job: I love being able to be a part of the Bigger Picture of my company. I work on a little bit of everything, so I can see my ideas really come to life in different forms during campaigns. It’s a rewarding experience to manage a campaign from start to finish. They become my babies, and I get so protective of them to make sure everything runs smoothly along the way.
Do you have any community involvement? I’m a member of my sorority’s Alumna chapter, Zeta Tau Alpha. We participate in a lot of philanthropy and community events throughout the year. Later this month, we’re headed to the New York Jets game to pass out pink ribbons for Breast Cancer Education and Awareness!
Any career advice for other Babes? Take advantage of internships! I had several, and they seriously helped me figure out what I wanted to do (and what I didn't want to do) with my life. Also, don’t be afraid to sell yourself or talk about your achievements. Be proud of them! You won’t sound conceited or stuck up - you’ll sound confident.
Lastly, can you show us some of the campaigns you're working on? I'd love to! Check out our Red Lobster campaign, here, and our Starbucks Fall campaign, here:
